Is the resolution of my file adequate?

Forget the «300 dpi» rule of paper printing. 300 dots per inch are dots too small to see even on a phone screen, and a fabric has nowhere near that fineness. A flag is looked at from metres away: at 3 metres you can no longer tell a half-centimetre dot, and a flag on a 10-metre pole would look the same at 5 dpi.

We check 50 dpi at the final size. A 100x150cm flag therefore needs an image of about 2000 x 3000 pixels — most logos and photos have more.

The check looks at JPG, PNG and TIFF files and at the images placed inside a PDF. It works at the real print size: the larger the flag, the more pixels the same image needs. Text and shapes drawn as vectors in a PDF have no resolution at all and stay sharp at any size.

If an image is too low, the file is stopped before production and you are asked for a better one. Nothing is printed from a file that failed the check.
